(BEIJING, August 3) -- The recruitment campaign for Honorary Website Visitors has ended, and the final list of the 2,008 members was released Friday.
Among the notable names on the membership list are IOC President Jacques Rogge, the Vice Mayor of the City of Beijing, Olympic gold medallist Deng Yaping, Sohu CEO and Co-President Charles Zhang, basketball stars Wang Zhizhia and Scottie Pippen, among others.
The 2,008 Honorary Website Visitors will receive membership certificates with unique serial numbers. The members will play the role of "online information providers," aiding the preparations for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games by providing helpful information. They will also help to promote the Olympic Games by way of the Internet and through their personal connections.
Since it began on March 6, the Honorary Website Visitors campaign has attracted over 30,000 visitors of the official website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The campaign fully reflects the spirit of the motto, "I participate, I contribute, and I enjoy."
During the first phase of the campaign, the official website named 500 Honorary Website Visitors to celebrate the 500-day countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
During the second phase of the campaign, which coincided with the release of the new version of the official website, the remaining 1,508 Honorary Website Visitors were named, including respondents who filled out the online website survey, and IOC President Rogge.
When presented with his Honorary Website Visitor member certificate during an interview with the official website, Mr Rogge responded with delight
"I'm very honored by this distinction," Mr. Rogge said. "To all the visitors I would say the best thing that will happen in 2008 is the Beijing Olympic Games. Watch the website.
