Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park (Liuhua Gongyuan) is actually the largest
urban parkland in the whole of China. As such, this can be a lovely place to take a walk and although it is a popular spot, the crowds are made more bearable thanks to the sheer size of the place.

The park was first built in 1952 and consists of numerous lakes, pagodas and pavilions and three major sites which are interesting in themselves.

The first of these is the Sculpture of Five Rams. The five rams are the symbol of Guangzhou. Legend has it that five celestial beings flew into the city on five rams bearing gifts for Guangzhou. This is an unusual sculpture hugely popular with the locals! There is also a Monument and Memorial Hall to Sun Yatsen in this huge park. The Monument is a huge, plain, granite obelisk but the Memorial Hall is a more attractive building, modeled on the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Finally, it is worth visiting the Zhenhai Tower. This is the only remaining part of Guangzhou's original city walls. The British and French occupied this great tower during the Opium War. Today, visitors can climb up the tower for a great view over the city.

The Park also has numerous amusement and recreational facilities including restaurants, tea houses, a stadium and a roller coaster.
